Name Origin:

Named for Andrew B. Crichton, a local coal mine operator.

History:

Crichton was a coal mining community established by the Johnstown Coal & Coke Company. This corporation consisted of Andrew B. Crichton, Walter G. Crichton, William Crichton, Harry Crichton, John Crichton, and Judge Evans. Crichton was also the home base of operations for the Meadow Creek Coal Company.

Crichton Elementary School (1913-present), Crichton Junior High School (part of Elementary School until 24 January 2000 when it consolidated with Rainelle, Rupert, and Smoot Junior High Schools to become Western Greenbrier Junior High), Crichton High School (consolidated with Rainelle, Rupert, and Smoot High Schools to become Greenbrier West High School in 1969)
