Name Origin: |
Named for Leslie Nelson who, in
partnership with his brother-in-law, John Laing, opened the Leslie mines and
founded the town. |
History: |
Leslie was a coal mining community
established by the Nelson Fuel Company. After several years of operation, the
Nelson Fuel Company was purchased by the New River Pocahontas Coal Company in
1930. The mines closed in 1950. |
