FRANKFORD - Henry Shortridge, 96, of Frankford, passed away Friday, Oct. 14, 2005, at Greenbrier Valley Medical Center following a short illness.

Born June 2, 1909, at Richwood, he was the son of the late James and Sarah Stiltner Shortridge.

He was retired from the College of Notre Dame in Maryland, where he was the head groundskeeper. He loved logging and was the No. 1 D8 cat operator for Meadow River Lumber Co. from 1932 to 1954. During his lifetime he also worked for Natwick Lumber Co. in Maryland and Virginia. In his younger years, he worked in the coal mines, Marguerite Nos. 1, 2 and 3 in Quinwood. In 1934, he married Myrtle Mae Sizemore of Trout. She was the love of his live. He lived a long, good life with a strong mind.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Myrtle Mae Sizemore Shortridge; his loving son, Ghaile Henry Shortridge; brothers, Jess, Jonah, Miles Harvey, Garland, Freeland and Dewey; sisters, Victoria Myers and Grace Kieffer; and a son-in-law, William Lawrence of Baltimore, Md.

Survivors include a son, James Edward Shortridge and wife, JoAnn, of Frankford; daughters, Ethel Lawrence of Baltimore, Delta Hinkle and husband, William, of Lewisburg, Dorothy Owens and husband, Les, of Lewisburg and Loretta Anders and husband, Robert, of Clarksville, Md.; grandchildren, Kathy Shortridge Hunter and husband, David, of Cornstalk, Daniel Shortridge of Baltimore, Patricia Parks and husband, John, of Baltimore, Elizabeth Thornton and husband, John, of Bel Air, Md., Deloris Hedrick and husband, Freddie, of Clintonville, Dianna Loudermilk of Matthews, N.C., Eddie Hinkle of Lewisburg, Mark Hinkle and wife, Lynn, of Lewisburg, Edward Owens and wife, Sherrie, of Baltimore, Deborah DeLaney of Jacksonville, Fla., Kimberly Anders of Clarksville, Daphne Shortridge of Frankford, Jennifer Brown and husband, Tim, of Lewisburg, Ghaile Shortridge of Lewisburg and Crystal Mann of Hurdle Mills, N.C.; 23 great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Service will be 11 a.m. Monday at Wallace & Wallace Funeral Home, Lewisburg, with Pastor Sonny Painter officiating. Entombment will follow at Wallace Memorial Mausoleum, Clintonville.

Visitation will be 2 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
