Elmira Lucas, 90, Claimed By Death
Ninety-year-old Mrs. Elmira Lucas left 142 survivors when she died at 12:05 p.m. yesterday at he home of her son, French Lucas, at 806 Woodlawn Ave.
Mrs. Lucas, who suffered a stroke about a week ago, had been in ill health for six months at her son's home where she resided.
Born March 11, 1864, she was a member of the Saxon Baptist Church.
Survivors include three other sons, Charley Lucas and Alfred Lucas, both of Glen Daniel, and Aden Lucas of Maplewood; five daughters, Mrs. James Godbey of Harper, Mrs. F. L. Daniel of Oceana, Mrs. E. H. Manning of Milton, Mrs. R. E. Westmoreland of Glen Daniel and Mrs. R. R. Dillon of Beckley; 54 grandchildren, 69 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the First Christian Church in Beckley. Officiating ministers will be Dr. A. H. Wilson, pastor of the church and Dr. Alvin J. Cook, pastor of the First Baptist Church. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be Roy Lucas, Chester Lucas, Ivan Daniel, D. K. Daniel, Herbert and Dawson Lucas, W. W. Lucas and French Manning. Granddaughters will be flowerbearers.
The body will be removed from Keyser Funeral Home to the church one hour before the services.
Elmira married William Clarkson LUCAS on 28 Feb 1882 in Raleigh Co., WV. (William Clarkson LUCAS was born in Apr 1862 in Raleigh Co., VA 311 and died before 1930.)
