Fred R. Hines, 86, of Canvas, Nicholas County, died Nov. 21, 1996, at home after a sudden illness. He was retired from the West Virginia Department of Highways, a farmer, and a member of Calvary Baptist Church, Summersville. Surviving: sons, Fred Russell Jr. of Manassas, Va., Johnny L. of Culpeper, Va., Roger D., James W., Jerry A. and Charles D., all of Canvas; daughters, Barbara A. Bayless and Sharon L. Smith, both of Huntington, Frances E. Spinks and Karen F. McCutcheon, both of Summersville, Janet L. Hines of Arlington, Va.; sister, Ollie Young of Charleston; 17 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren. Service will be 11 a.m. Monday at Calvary Baptist Church with the Rev. Bud Truman officiating. Burial will be in West Virginia Memorial Gardens, Calvin.
