Duo Machine Runner Killed in Slate Fall
Garland King, 43, of Duo, a machine runner of the Raine Coal and Lumber Co. of Duo was killed Sunday in a slate fall in the company mine. The body was removed to the Nickell mortuary, East Rainelle.
Services will be held tomorrow at 2 p.m. at the Big Creek Baptist church at Rupert with Rev. Joe Smith and Rev. Elbert Perkins officiating. Burial will be in the End-of-the-Trail cemetery.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Mattie King; his father, W. A. King; three children, Eldon of Baltimore, Md., Catherine and Hallie, both of Charleston; five sisters, a brother and two half-brothers.
Garland married Mattie Walker "Nannie" CRANE, daughter of William Samuel "Bill" CRANE and Eliza Catherine "Kate" SHAWVER, on 30 Jul 1920 in Lockbridge, Summers Co., WV.828 (Mattie Walker "Nannie" CRANE was born on 19 Jul 1898 in Kieffer, Greenbrier Co., WV,830 died on 30 Apr 1994 in Fairlea, Greenbrier Co., WV 68 and was buried on 2 May 1994 in End Of The Trail Cemetery, Clintonville, Greenbrier Co., WV 68.)
