Dr. Bennett Is Dead at 88
RICHWOOD - Dr. Edgar Clark Bennett, 88, mayor of Richwood for five terms and twice its postmaster, died Friday in Sacred Heart Hospital after a long illness.
DR. BENNETT, who also had served on the Ctiy Council here, came to the city in 1898, three
years before it was incorporated. It was estimated he had delivered more than a thousand babies in this area.
He practiced medicine until he was past 80.
Surviving are his wife Lucinda; one daughter, Mrs. Beatrice Wilson of Brookeville, Md.; one brother, Dr. 0. 0. Bennett of Buckhannon; five grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday in the First Methodist Church at Richwood by Rev. Charles Rightmyer. Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery here.
The body: will be taken to the church from Simons mortuary of Richwood one hour before the
service.
Edgar married Lucinda Hannah "Cindy" McCUTCHEON, daughter of Bernard Newton McCUTCHEON and Martha Ann CRANE, on 22 Mar 1895 in Nicholas Co., WV.53 (Lucinda Hannah "Cindy" McCUTCHEON was born on 22 Apr 1876 in Nicholas Co., WV 655 and died after 1958.)
