Rupert Woman, 37, Drowns in Florida

OKEECHOBEE, Fla. (AP) - Mrs. Lillian Crane, 37, of Rupert, W.Va., drowned in Lake Okeechobee Wednesday night.

Her daughter, Jane, 16, was saved by Roy Williams, 16, of Okeechobee, who witnessed the tragedy.

Williams said Mrs. Crane and her daughter were wading in the big lake near Hurricane Dyke No. 6 about a mile east of Okeechobee when they stepped into a hole about 20 feet deep. Neither was able to swim.

Williams brought the daughter to safety but said he could not reach Mrs. Crane after he saw her go down.

Mrs. Crane and her family were visiting her father, E. K. McCoy of Okeechobee. She is survived by her husband, J. L. Crane; two sons, James, 17, and Charles, 10, and another daughter, Ana Ruth, 7.

CRANE, Mrs. Lillian McCoy - 38, of Rupert, was drowned Wednesday night while vacationing at Okeechobee, Fla. Surviving are her husband, Burley W. Crane; two brothers, Wilson McCoy of Rainelle and Harmon McCoy of Rupert; two sisters, Mrs. Elden Smith of Charmco and Mrs. Boyd Frazier of Charleston; two sons, James and Charles, both at home; two daughters, Jane and Ruth, both at home; and her father, E. K. McCoy of Florida. Service will be in Amwell Baptist Church at Rupert at 2:30 p.m. tomorrow. Rev. Joe E. Smith will officiate. Burial will be in Amwell Cemetery under direction of Nickell Mortuary of East Rainelle.

Mary married Burley Wilson CRANE, son of Herbert Cody CRANE and Lorena C.
