ROSE VALLEY, Pa. - Susan Rollins Wykle, 60, of Rose Valley, formerly of Charleston, W.Va., died Nov. 11, 2001, at Taylor Hospice, Ridley Park, Pa. Mrs. Wykle was a lifelong devoted volunteer and an active member of the Charleston community for 45 years. She served Charleston Memorial Hospital as a Candy-Striper while attending Charleston High School and later as a member of the Women's Auxiliary. After earning her B.A. degree from Longwood College, Farmville, Va., she began teaching in the Kanawha County School System before joining Head Start during the programom 6 to 8 p.m. Tue's formative years. Mrs. Wykle served on the board of directors of the Junior League of Charleston and was involved in many of the League's charitable works, including Whale of a Sale and the Mountain Measures Cookbook. She also served as president of the Holz Elementary School PTA and taught Sunday school at First Presbyterian Church. In 1986, she moved to Pennsylvania with her husband, William J. Wykle, and her two children. There, she continued her volunteerism in numerous capacities within the Wallingford-Swarthmore School District and was later involved in fundraising efforts for both Duke University and Wake Forest University. Mrs. Wykle considered her greatest life achievement to be her two loving, caring and independent children. The daughter of the late Charles and Glenna Rollins, she is survived by: her husband of 34 years; her daughter, S. Rollins Wykle of Charlotte, N.C.; her son, William H. Wykle of Atlanta, Ga.; and her sister, Rebecca Wright of Humble, Texas. A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 14, at Church of the Good Shepherd, Chappell Road and Chesterfield Avenue SE, Kanawha City, Charleston, with the Rev. Esber Tweel officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Taylor Hospice, 300 Johnson Ave., Ridley Park, PA 19078. Barlow-Bonsall Funeral Home, Charleston, is in charge of arrangements.
