Retired Cedar Grove Physician Dies
Dr. Randolph D. Black, 66-year old retired physician, died about 9 p.m. Saturday at his home at Cedar Grove after a year's illness.
A native of Greenbrier county, Dr. Black was born Sept. 24, 1874, at Rupert, the son of the late S. T. and Laura Bivens Black of Greenbrier county.
During the past few years, Dr. Black spent most of his time in Florida, following his retirement from active practice. He moved to Cedar Grove, after retiring several years ago because of ill health. For several years, Dr. Black operated the Black hospital at Cabin Creek. He moved there from Coalburg.
Dr. Black in 1910 married Miss Lenida Rupert, daughter of Dr. C. A. Rupert of Rupert.
Educated in the public schools at Rupert, Dr. Black was graduated in 1902 from the University of Tennessee with his M. D. degree. He also attended Vanderbilt university. He began his practice at McKendree hospital, at McKendree, in Fayette county. He later moved to Coalburg, where he continued his practice.
Surviving besides his widow are two children, John R. Black and Elizabeth Black, both of Cedar Grove; two brothers, Dr. W. P. Black of Charleston, and H. A. Black of Rupert; six sisters, Mrs. W. B. Jones of Washington, Mrs. Charles Shaffer of Buckhannon, Mrs. H. D. Groves of Summersville, Mrs. Harry Lawson of Columbus, O., Miss Sannan Black of Zanesville, O., and Miss Mary Black of Morgantown.
Private funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at the Barlow mortuary chapel, where the body will remain until time for the services. Members of the family have requested that flowers be omitted. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial park.
Active pallbearers will be Ellison Connell, Hayes Picklesimer, and J. Crummell of Charleston; L. R. McClung of Smithers; Dr. R. A. Henson of Cabin Creek and Dr. H. D. Nester of Cedar Grove.
