John W. Worrell, 80, Crab Orchard, died Saturday at 2 a.m. in a local hospital after a long illness.

He was a retired miner and a World War I Army veteran. Worrell was a Primitive Baptist.

Born June 28, 1894 in Camp Creek, he was a son of the late James B. and Mary Kester Worrell. Worrell had lived in Raleigh County for 52 years.

Survivors include his wife, Vergie Cooper Worrell; a daughter, Mrs. Annie Sylvia Pack, Crab Orchard; four sons, Maynar, Crab Orchard, Ora and James, both of Sophia, and Curtis, Beckley; a brother, Raymond, Pipestem;and three sisters, Mrs. Thelma Worley, Mullens, Mrs. Orma Wissinger, Beckley, and Mrs. Winnie Rose, address unknown.

Funeral services will be held Monday at 2 p.m. in the Little Vine Primitive Baptist Church with Elder Charlie Cox, Elder Kenna Lilly and Elder Darrell Hatcher officiating. Burial will be in the Cooper Cemetery, Camp Creek.

Friends may call at the Calfee Funeral Home today from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. The body will be taken to the church an hour prior to services.

Nephews will serve as pallbearers.


John married Virgie COOPER. (Virgie COOPER was born in 1901 in WV 2501.)
