ASBURY - Mildred McClung Craig, 83, passed away Thursday, Nov. 30, 2006, after a long illness at her home in Asbury.
Born April 18, 1923, at Chauncy, she was the daughter of the late Cowan Walker and Ida Mae Shearl.
Her first husband, C. Witt McClung; second husband, James Craig; son, Dennis R. McClung; sister, Ruth Hizer; brother, Leon Walker Shearl; and granddaughter, Jennifer, preceded her in death.
Family members include sons, Carmon W. McClung of Pittsburgh, Pa., Mark W. McClung of Lewisburg, Alan C. McClung of Denton, Texas, and Bryan K. McClung of Lansing; sisters, Iva Mae Jarrett of Charleston and Bea Callaghan of Coatesville, Pa.; also the sister of Cowan Walker "Bud" Shearl of Venice, Fla. Additional survivors include eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; special caregivers, Barbara Thompson, Betty Wright and Barbara Sharp, cared for her.
Mrs. Craig was a 1941 graduate of Rupert High School and looked forward to reunions with her classmates. She had been a resident of Asbury since early 1940. She was a devoted mother and active in school system attended by her children. She worked at the shops at The Greenbrier
hotel prior to founding Colony House Furniture in Fairlea.
Mildred was a member of the Greenbrier County Democratic Women's Federation, having successfully run for a seat on the Greenbrier County Committee and the West Virginia Democratic Committee. She was a founding member of the Greenbrier County Youth Camp and served as a trustee until she became ill. She was a member of the Sewell Valley Rebekah Lodge since 1959 and a past member of the Home Demonstration Club.
Service will be 2 p.m. Monday at Emanuel United Methodist Church, Asbury, with the Rev. Ron Sadler officiating. Burial will follow in Wallace Memorial Cemetery, Clintonville.
Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Wallace & Wallace Funeral Home, Lewisburg.
