MAPLEWOOD \emdash Olive Louise Burnett Jones, 81, a resident of Maplewood since 1951, passed away Friday, Nov. 9, 2007, at Appalachian Hospital from a long battle of illnesses and complications from accidental falls.
Born at Lawton on March 17, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Robert S. Burnett and Goldie Hazel Berry Burnett.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years in 2003, Harry R. Jones; three brothers, James Burnett, Eddie Burnett and Gerald Burnett; a sister, Betty Burnett; stepdaughter, Gladys Jones Fitzpatrick; and grandson, Loran David Jones Jr.
Louise was a homemaker. She loved to read her Bible, cook, garden, can, shovel snow, and for the past four years tell stories of her beloved Greenwood Mountain and her escapades with her dear friend, Neil Wood. She would put her hand to her mouth, start laughing and say, "I could write a book about the things that happened in that coal camp." She professed to be a doctor because she operated on a duck once. St. Patrick's Day was one of her very favorite days because it was her birthday. She was born with red hair and she loved it. She hated the name Olive and also had a story behind that.

Those left to cherish her memories and her stories of Greenwood Mountain are her devoted, loving son and caregiver, Loran D. Jones Sr. and his wife, Cynthia "Lanie" Jones, of Maplewood; son, Harry D. Jones and wife, Sue, of Glen Daniel; stepson-in-law, Joseph Fitzpatrick of Eden, N.C.; grandchildren, Master Chief Petty Officer/Master Diver Kevin Jones and wife, Laura, of Moyock, N.C., Jason Jones of Maplewood, Robert Jones of Morristown, Tenn., Sunshine Jones and Dalton Jones of Glen Daniel, Lula "Sissy" Fitzpatrick of Eden, Vivian and Gladys of Eden, and Daniel Fitzpatrick of Lewisburg; great-grandchildren, Seth David Allen and Kaitlyn Jones, Allison and Victoria Khun, all of Moyock; honorary grandsons, Richard Taylor of Danese and Jason Honaker of Arnette; very dear sisters-in-law, Edna Morris and Verta Pomeroy; special niece, Cathy Jones; a sister, Margaret Wert Quincy of California; and a host of cousins and friends.
Service will be 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 12, at Wallace and Wallace Funeral Home, Rainelle, with the Rev. David Chrisman officiating. Burial will follow at Wallace Memorial Cemetery, Clintonville.
Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
