BASIN ? Margaret Adair Cook, 88, passed away Saturday, Oct. 29, 2005, at Princeton Community Hospital following a long illness, where she was lovingly surrounded by family.

Born March 22, 1917, in Staffordsville, Va., she was the daughter of the late Claude Barley and Polly Ann Akers Phipps.

Mrs. Cook was a homemaker, a 54-year resident of Barker?s Ridge and a 60-year member of the Spruce Grove Missionary Baptist Church. She was a 12-year employee of the U.S. Postal Service, having worked at Stephenson Post Office. She enjoyed gardening, growing beautiful roses and working crossword puzzles. Spending time with her family was her favorite pastime. She was a wonderful cook and a kind and loving mother and friend to all who knew her.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Marion Cook; two sisters, Bertha Blevins and Shirley Swim; and a brother, Harvey Phipps.

Those left to cherish her memory are four sons, Richard Cook and his wife, Astor, of Basin, Byron Cook and his wife, Sandy, of Elsmere, Ky., Ray Cook and his wife, Sharon, of Nicholasville, Ky., and Kenneth Cook of Somerville, Va.; two daughters, Marian Bell and her husband, Ron, of Pickerington, Ohio, and Rachel Perdue and her husband, Paul, of Basin, with whom she made her home for the last eight yeas; 13 grandchildren, Mark, Larry, David, Kathy, Susan, Michael, Daryl, Candace and Sheena Cook, Neal and Jennifer Bell, and Adam and Justin Perdue; 11 great-grandchildren; and Dempsey McKinney, a loving friend who helped with her care.

Service will be 1 p.m. Thursday at the Tankersley Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Gilbert Dodson officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Princeton.

Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
