Rites Scheduled For C. A. Smith

RAINELLE (RNS) - Clarence A. Smith, 71, of Rainelle died at his home Saturday night after a short illness.

Born at Spring Dale, Jan. 28, 1902, he was a son of the late Harve and Jane Simms Smith.

He was a member of the Spring Dale Missionary Baptist Church and was a retired Chesapeake and Ohio Railroad conductor.

Survivors include his wife Vida; one daughter, Mrs. Josephine Hazelett of Mount Lookout; two sons, Vellow of Texas and Shelton of Grassy Meadows; one sister, Mrs. Elsie Lawson of Mac Arthur; one brother, George of Rainelle; five step-sisters, Mrs. Nora Brealey of Pennsylvania, Pa., Mrs. Lois Thornton of Ashland, Ky., and Mrs. Dora Cruze, Mrs. Madge Hanes and Mrs. Carrie Smith, all of Rainelle; one stepbrother, Ralph Gilkerson of Charleston; 13 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.

Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at Smathers Funeral Home in Rainelle with Rev. Bruce Wood in charge. Burial will be in Wallace Memorial Cemetery at Clintonville. Friends may call after 5 p.m. today.


Clarence married Vida J. STEELE in 1925.88 (Vida J. STEELE was born on 1 Jun 1895 in Fayette Co., WV,64 died on 13 Jan 1982 64 and was buried in Wallace Memorial Cemetery, Clintonville, Greenbrier Co., WV 64.)
