Dies In Korea
QUINWOOD, Sept. 17 \emdash Pfc. Fred Burns, Jr., 19-year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Burns, Sr., of Charleston, who was killed in action in Korea on July 28, is a nephew of Mrs. Jack Trout, and Marion and Abraham Pittsenbarger, all of Quinwood.
A student at Stonewall Jackson High School in Charleston, young Burns enlisted in the army August 30, 1948, and sailed for Japan the following December 23, where he was stationed at Camp Haugen with the 7th Infantry Division, 32nd Infantry Regiment.
On July 10th of this year he was transferred to the 25th Infantry Division, 27th Infantry Regiment and sailed immediately for Korea.
His parents received one letter from him after he arrived in Korea, dated July 21, which they received on August 4. He was their only son.
Besides his parents, he is survived by seven sisters, Mrs. Opal Cooper and Mrs. Freda Howell, both of Reed; Mrs. Faye Scherer, of Eleanor; Mrs. Lucille Leadmon, and Mrs. Maxine Hancock, of Charleston; and Mrs. Wilma Scherer, and Miss Jacqueline Burns, both at home.
