DAWSON - Belva W. Rhodes, 83, died Tuesday, March 18, 2003, at Alleghany Regional Hospital following a short illness.
Born Nov. 30, 1919, at Dawson, she was the daughter of the late Miller and Cleo Anderson Walkup.
Belva was a retired nurse and a homemaker. She was a member of Maude Chapel United Methodist Church, Dawson, but had attended Meadow Grove Baptist Church, Dawson, since 1970.
Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Gladys Faye; two sisters, Gladys Walkup and Dorlis Lindsay; a brother, Lonzo Walkup; and an infant great-grandson, Garrett Paul Johnson.
Survivors include her husband of 63 years, Paul C. Rhodes; a daughter, Juanita Keeney and husband, Roger, of Dawson; nine sons, Paul Lee Rhodes and wife, Jackie, of Warren, Pa., Johnny Rhodes and wife, Cindy, of Dawson, Gene Rhodes of Woodbridge, Va., Sam Rhodes and wife, Mary, of Alexandria, Va., Harold Rhodes and friend, Judy McFall, of Lewisburg, Miller Curtis Rhodes of Dawson, Dwight Rhodes and wife, Denita, of Fredericksburg, Va., Richard Rhodes and wife, Sue, of Clinton, Ohio, and Bobby Rhodes and wife, Alice, of Dawson; a sister, Evelyn Young and husband, Don, of Diamondhead, Miss.; three brothers, Miller Lee Walkup of White Sulphur Springs, French Walkup and wife, Joyce "Eileen," of Spring Hill, Fla., and Robert "Bob" Walkup and wife, Juanita, of Canton, N.C.; 18 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; a stepgreat-grandchild; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Memorial service will be 1 p.m. Friday at Meadow Grove Baptist Church, Dawson, with Pastors Roy Teubert, Jay Hicks and LeRoy Crane officiating. Burial will follow in Wallace Memorial Cemetery, Clintonville.
Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m. today at Wallace & Wallace Chapel, Rainelle.
Pallbearers will be grandsons.
