Obits for Life, Vandal Morgan Rhea Obituary

Vandal Morgan Rhea, 83, of Sutton, West Virginia passed away at his residence on February 17,2014, following an extended illness. He was born in Newville, WV on March 13, 1930, and was the son of the late James Author Rhea and Beulah (Pullin) Rhea.

Vandal is survived by one, son John Rhea of Sutton, three grandchildren, Jamie Feick, Jason Flynn, Dean Flynn, and seven great-grandchildren. Also surviving are two sisters, Vivana Salzgiver of Mansfield, OH and Vilena Shoenfelt of Fredericktown, OH.

In addition to his parents, Vandal was preceded in death by one daughter, Janet Flynn-Greer, two brothers Victor Rhea, Vernon Rhea, two sisters Veatrice Boggs, Valera Kurtz, and one grandchild Mark Greer.

Vandal was an avid outdoorsman. He loved to deer, bear, and mushroom hunt, and search for deer horns. He also enjoyed the art of whittling. He made an entire chain out of hand carved wood. He was a great story teller and had an amazing memory of dates. He had a love for guns and was a member of the AMVETS social club. He also loved to spend time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Family will receive friends at the Stockert-Paletti Funeral Home 225 Main Street, Flatwoods on Saturday, February 22, 2014 from 11-1:00 p.m. Funeral services will follow visitation at 1:00 p.m. and be held in the Stockert-Paletti Funeral Chapel with Reverend Jim Malick officiating. Interment will follow services in the Newville Cemetery. Mr. Rhea will receive full military honors conducted by American Legion Post #33. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the family at Stockert-Paletti Funeral Home. On-line condolences may be expressed to the family at stockert-paletti.com.
