Karla Faye Panariello, 52, of Wabash, Indiana died at 9:50am Sunday, February 7, 2010 at her father's home in Wabash. She was born November 16, 1957 in Wabash, Indiana to Henry E. "Hank" and Jackie (Hunter) Eilts. Karla married Richard A. Panariello in Wabash on June 16, 2001. She graduated from Northfield High School in 1975, received her Bachelor's degree from Indiana University in 1979, earned her teaching certificate from Manchester College, and was working on her Masters in the Gifted and Talented Program at Purdue University. She taught at St. Bernard School in Wabash for 21 years. The last several years she taught both Art at St. Bernard School and the Gifted and Talented Program for Wabash City Schools. She also traveled around to various schools throughout the county to teach foreign languages and art programs. She taught Chinese, Japanese, Spanish, German, and Portuguese. She also ran a program every St. Patricks Day at the St. Patricks Church in Lagro, spoken completely in Irish dialect. Karla owned and operated Karla's Kitchens in Wabash from 1981-1985. She was always involved in athletics, coaching soccer for more than 20 years through the YMCA. She coached volleyball, softball, tennis, and basketball for community service and various schools. She also played on volleyball and softball teams for more than 20 years. She was a member of the Bachelor Creek Church of Christ, the Wabash Country Club, the Wabash Unit of the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra, and was the current director of the Childrens First Program. Karla was a past member of both the Red Cross Board of Directors and the Wabash Community Service Board. She was a master gardener through Purdue Extension. She is survived by husband, Richard A. Panariello; her father, Hank Eilts, 2 children, Ali Van Buskirk and Calvin "Will" Van Buskirk, all of Wabash; 2 step sons, Matthew Panariello of Renton, WA and Justin Panariello of Wabash; 2 sisters, Tammy (John Helm) Eilts-Helm of Greenwood, IN and Karen (Christopher Walter) Eilts-Walter of Wabash; 2 nieces and a nephew, Jessica Helm of Greenwood, Samantha Walter and Jasper Walter, both of Wabash. Funeral services will be held at Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service, 1241 Manchester Ave. Wabash on Thursday, February 11, 2010 at 2:00pm with Linda Mirante, Pastor J.P. Freeman, and Pastor Jeff Freeman officiating. Burial will be in Falls Cemetery, Wabash. Friends may call 2-8pm Wednesday at the funeral home. Preferred memorial is St. Bernard School Art Program.
