Obituary of William Starr Crane (provided by Diane Benelli):

"W.S.Crane passed to his reward November 3, 1933, in the seventy-fourth year of his life. Mr. Crane was born July 22, 1856, in the vicinity of Rupert where he spent his entire life. He was married to Mary I. Young, December 23, 1878. To this union ten children were born. Brother Crane suffered greatly in his last years, finally becoming entirely helpless. He joined Amwell Baptist Church in early youth, and his loyalty to and his interest in this church never flagged. At the time of our coming to this community, he was a deacon, and was very active in the affairs of his church. We came to look upon him as a godly man of unusually sound judgment, instant in season and out of season about his Master's business.
Brother Crane was a man of strong convictions and very positive in his adherence to these convictions. His life was above reproach and he was generous to a fault to those in need. He was a good citizen, a good neighbor and a good friend. Living on a small unproductive farm, by thrift and industry he brought up a large family of children who are in turn good citizens, good neighbors and friends. Then having been overtaken by opportunity, he assumed new responsibilities and brought up a brood of grandchildren who are also good citizens. Three grandsons are junior deacons in the church where Brother Crane labored so faithfully as Deacon." -- Margaret C. McClung
