Eldridge Clarence Hellems, 80, of Quinwood went to be with the Lord on April 9, 2005, at the VA Medical Center, Beckley, after a long illness.
He was born on Dec. 14, 1924, at Bamboo, the son of the late Buster and Mary Hellems. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Norma Jane; and one brother, Lonnie Hellems.
He was a member of Quinwood Baptist Church, a veteran of World War II, owner/operator of Hellems Refrigerator & Air Conditioning and was a Mason.
He is survived by one daughter and her husband, Barbara and Ed Byer of Quinwood; one grandson and his wife, Christopher and Brandy Carnell of Mount Lookout; three sisters and a brother-in-law, Nellie Edds of Rainelle, Florence Walton of Quinwood and Lorene and Melvin "Buck" Nottingham of Crichton; one brother and sister-in-law, Ralph "Kaki" and Almagene of Crichton; many nieces and nephews; and a host of friends.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 13, at Wallace & Wallace Funeral Home, Rainelle, with the Rev. Houston Boothe and the Rev. Melvin Nottingham officiating. Burial will be in Wallace Memorial Cemetery, Clintonville, with Masonic graveside service conducted by Midland Trail Lodge 166.
Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Eldridge married Norma Jane McCLUNG, daughter of Andrew Clayton McCLUNG and Lenida June McCLUNG, on 23 Sep 1946 in Lewisburg, Greenbrier Co., WV.3578 (Norma Jane McCLUNG was born on 7 May 1926 in Leslie, Greenbrier Co., WV 238,3578 and died between 2003 and 2005.)
