RUPERT \emdash Velma C. O'Dell, age 85, of Rupert, passed away on Tuesday, June 29, 2010 at her home.
Born July 28, 1924, in Rupert, she was the daughter of the late Oather and Myrtle Lusher Cales.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Homer E. O'Dell and her sister, Gertrude Cales.
Those left to cherish her memory are four daughters, Sandy (Basil) Smith of Rupert, Gail (David) Forsong of Houston, Texas, Becky (Bruce) Byars of Clintonville, and Mary Beth O'Dell of Rupert; a son, Gary (Donna) O'Dell of Clintonville; two sisters, Helen Selvey of Hendersonville, N.C. and Mattalea Sheridan of Summersville; a brother, Bill (Jeanne) Cales of Talent, Oreg.; 10 grandchildren, Kevin (Jackie) Adams of Holland, N.Y., Garrett (Karen) O'Dell of Crawley, Matthew (Kim) O'Dell of Rupert, Jennifer Adams of Shinnston, B.J. Adams of Morgantown, Adam (April) Byars of Alderson, Thomas (Stephanie) Byars of Alderson, Jesse (Carter) Forsong of Dallas, Texas and Kelley Forsong of Houston, Texas; four great-grandchildren, Elaina O'Dell, Marshall O'Dell, Haley Byars and Sadie McCarthy.
The family would like to thank her wonderful friend and caretaker Darlene Heaster and husband, Bob of Rupert.
Velma was a long time member of Big Clear Creek Baptist Church.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that a donation be made in her name to HospiceCare, 223 Maplewood Ave., Lewisburg, WV 24901.
Services will be 11 a.m. Friday, July 2, at Big Clear Creek Baptist Church at Rupert, with Pastor Glen Kuhn officiating. Burial will follow in Wallace Memorial Cemetery, Clintonville.
Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m. today at the church.
Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

Velma married Homer E. O'DELL, son of Loren W. O'DELL and Montague McCLUNG. (Homer E. O'DELL was born on 14 Aug 1923 in Greenbrier Co., WV 4030 and died on 6 Jul 1993 in Clintonville, Greenbrier Co., WV 4030.)
