Veon F. Bays, 88, of Nettie died Monday, January 3, 2011 at his home. He was the son of the late Joseph Lee and Emma Mae Hayselette Bays and was born in Mt. Lookout on August 23, 1922. He was a retired coal miner and a member of the UMWA and Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, Nettie. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dellaphene Bailes Bays; brothers, Loniel and Roger Bays; step-brothers, Cladus and Alvie Wilson; and sisters, Armada Bryant and Lordell Chapman. Surving are four daughters and their husbands, Donna Childers and Denver of Charleston and Brenda Woods and Charles, Joyce Cartwright and Ed and Sandra O'Dell and David, all of Nettie; sister, Phyllis McMillion of North Carolina; eleven grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, January 6, 2011 at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, Nettie, with Pastor Paul Mateer and Pastor Von Sadler officiating. Burial will follow in the Fairview Cemetery, Nettie. Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the church. The Waters Funeral Chapel, Summersville, is in charge of arrangements.
