    • Obituary -- Louis DuVall Starr, Jr.

STARR, LOUIS D., born June 28, 1922 in Baltimore, Maryland, died peacefully November 23, 2005 in Tuscon, Arizona surrouded by his loving wife and six chilkdren.

Mr. Starr distinguished himself during World War II, during which he served in the Army Air Corps, flew 62 missions as a B-25 bombardier, and received the Purple Heart. Upon discharge he entered Johns Hopkins University, where he received a Bachelor of Science in chemical engineering. Mr. Starr was an engineer at DuPont for 33 years and spent much of this time active in the Catholic churches he attended, as well as helping others through youth coaching, adult literacy programs and volunteering at Grant and Cunningham middle schools.

He was a lover of song, having been in both church choirs and barbershop quartets. Later in life he wrote a home published autobiography, "A Baltimore Kid," a gift cherished by his family.

Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Helen C. Starr, daughter Anne Starr and husband Tom Paratore, son Louis and wife Colin, son Robert, son Joe, son Tom and wife Barbara, and daughter Tina Lacy and husband Steve; as well as eleven grandchildren and one great grandson.

He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, who will be greatly missed by all. His courage and sense of humor in recent years was a comfort to those who loved him.

A funeral mass will be celebrated at Santa Catalina Church, 14380 N. Oracle Rd. in Tuscon, Tuesday, November 29, at 10:00 a.am
