Husband 56 years of Nellie Frances Hall Akers.
Mr. Akers worked 25 years at the Celanese Corp. where he was a boilermaker, and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the Pine Grove Baptist Church.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, David Akers and his wife, Patricia & Doug Maddy and his wife, Billie; three daughters, Leta Dunn, Nita Thomas, & Cheryl Ayres and her husband, Tom; sister, Leta Louise LaBoard of California; several grandchildren; great-grandchildren, and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by two sons, Larry & Heyward Akers; a daughter, Brenda Lafferty; his parents, Lindy William & Icey Susan Faulkner Akers, and brother, Elden Akers.
Interment followed funeral services conducted Monday, February 1, 2010.
