- Obituary -- William "Bill" Clyde Rookstool, Jr.
William Clyde Rookstool, Jr of Meadow Bridge passed away Thursday, April 18, 2019 in the Raleigh General Hospital, Beckley.
Born October 5, 1959 in Rainelle, he was the son of the late William Clyde and Janet Patterson Rookstool.
Bill was a graduate of Meadow Bridge High School and very proudly served in the US Army from 1977-1983. While in the Army, Bill was in the Military Police and also served as a Game Warden when stationed at Fort Bragg, NC and served as a Military Policeman while stationed in South Korea.
After the Army, Bill spent time working as a guard on land and water for The Naval Submarine Base Kings Bay, GA. Later, he drove long haul trucks from coast to coast for North American Van Lines and then for Covenant Transport, constantly telling family and friends stories of the roads traveled and sights seen. Bill’s career as a trucker spanned a long 25+ years. After retirement, Bill continued his lifelong passion of reading, which he passed along to his son, working outdoors, and a love of wildlife and nature, which he shared with his daughter. He also enjoyed studying and talking about the history and genealogy of his family.
Survivors include his Grandmother Louella Gwinn Patterson, his children; William Clyde Rookstool III, Darcy Marie Rookstool, their mother Norma Bennett-Rookstool; his granddaughter, Brynna Brewer of whom he was so, so proud; brothers; Robert J. (Laura) Rookstool, David K. (Melissa) Rookstool and Thomas A. (Melanie) Rookstool; aunts and uncles; Lola Rookstool, Wanda (Harlan) Wickline, Judy (Tim Vandall), Ruth (Larry) Bragg, Delores Campbell and Darlene Patterson; and a host of nieces, nephews and a large extended family.
Services will be1:00 p.m. Saturday, April 20, at Smathers Funeral Chapel, officiated by Pastor Robby Shorter. Burial will follow at the Patterson Family Cemetery.
