LEWISBURG - Rev. C. L. "Leroy" Crane, 90, of Lewisburg, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 13, 2011, at his home, after a long illness.
Born October 27, 1920, at Esty, W.Va., he was a son of the late Charles Oakley and Ada Hume Crane of Renick, W.Va. Mr. Crane was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Charles Steven Crane; sisters, Ruth Crane Hanna, Mary Hester Crane, and an infant sister; and brothers, William Leslie "Bill" Crane, Joe H. Crane and L. Marshall Crane.
He attended Renick High School, was a member of Zion's Light Baptist Church, was a World War II Veteran, having served in the "Normandy Beach Invasion", was a member of the VFW, was a charter member of the Clintonville Ruritan Club, and was a member of the American Legion. He hauled coal for 17 1/2 years for various strip mining companies in Western Greenbrier County. Along with his wife, Mr. Crane built, owned, and operated "Cranes Super Market & Texaco Station" in Clintonville.
Mr. Crane accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior at the age of 11 at the Band of Hope Church near Friars Hill. He was ordained as a Missionary Baptist Minister in the early sixties, and for nearly 50 years, pastored many churches throughout Greenbrier, Monroe, Summers, and Nicholas Counties. He also, was a well-known Evangelist in West Virginia, Virginia, Pennsylvania, and other areas.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Ruby F. Crane of Lewisburg; daughter, Joyce Crane Burke and husband Charlie of Lewisburg; three step-grandsons, Michael Wayne Burke (Kim) and Seth Adam Burke (Alison), both of Leslie, W.Va., and Paul Brian Burke (Marsha) of Rainelle; seven great-grandchildren, Justin, Jacob, Madison, Lauren, Rebekah, Avery, Jayne, and Mikah Faith Burke, all of Leslie and Rainelle, and a special nephew, Robert C. "Carroll" Crane and wife Frances of Lewisburg.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 17, 2011, at Wallace & Wallace Funeral Home in Lewisburg, with Rev. Jim Anderson and Rev. Gary Baker officiating. Burial and Military Rites will be conducted at Wallace Memorial Cemetery in Clintonville, followed by the release of "White Flights".
Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, April 16, 2011, at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Carroll Crane, Reese Grimmett, Lonnie Faulkner, Michael Burke, Paul Burke and Seth Burke.
