Violet Ruth Spencer, 85, of Craigsville, died Sunday, Feb. 17, 2013.
Violet Ruth Spencer, 85, of Craigsville, WV went to be with the Lord Sunday, February 17, 2012 in the Pleasant Valley Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Born December 12, 1927 at Fenwick, WV, she was the daughter of the late Alvin and Cynthia Shoulders Collins. She is also preceded in death by her husband, Jennings L. Spencer; one brother, Benjamin Boyd Collins; one sister, Hazel Collins Groves.
She formerly attended St. Luke's United Methodist Church of Craigsville, was a former school teacher in Nicholas County with more than 20 years of service, was a former EMT and a member of Craigsville Beaver Cottle Fire Department.
Survivors include three sons, Rev. Lloyd Spencer and his wife, Gussie of Greensboro, NC, Gordon "Tarzan" Spencer and his wife, Carol of Hartford, WV, and Richard Spencer and his wife, Pat of Greer, SC; two brothers, Herbert Collins of Quinnwood and David Collins of AL; one sister, Ann Cavendish of Quinnwood; seven grandchildren, and five great grandchildren; special nephew, Bucky Collins and his wife, Judy of Taunton, MA.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 21, 2013 in the White Funeral Home at Craigsville with Pastors Mike Finnicum and Huling Greene. Interment will follow in the WV Memorial Gardens at Calvin.
