Obituary for Leeson David Crookshanks
Leeson David Crookshanks Rainelle, WV - Leeson David Crookshanks, 90, passed away Friday, October 3, 2014, in the comfort of his home.
Born May 10, 1924, he was the son of the late Lee V. Crookshanks and Nellie Sims Crookshanks. He lived most of his life on the Loops Road and attended the Sturgeon Branch Baptist Church and Chestnut Knob Christian Church.
Leeson served in the U.S. Army during WW II. He worked at many jobs including timber cutting, coal mining, railroad worker, truck driver, carpenter, maintenance man at Heartland Nursing Home, and farmer. He also drove an ambulance for the Danese Volunteer Fire Dept. for fourteen years.
He was a loving husband, Dad, grandpa, and great-grandpa. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Christine Carr Crookshanks, sisters, Mary Catherine Munn and Glenna Bumgarner Walker, one grandson, Mason Claypool and son-in-law, Teddy Claypool. Survivors include his sisters, Bessie Kenney, Gladys Redden, and Shirley Crookshanks; his children: Kathy Cox (John), Audrey Claypool, David M. Crookshanks (Jeanne), Martha Gipson (Richard), Pamela Arrington (Scott), Timmy Crookshanks, Millie Callison (Kenny), and Randy Crookshanks (Lisa), thirteen grandchildren, and sixteen great-grandchildren.
Services will be 1:00 p.m. Monday, October 6, 2014 at Smathers Funeral Chapel with Pastors Marvin Mullins and Kermit Hunter officiating. Burial will follow at Sims & Crookshanks Cemetery on the Loops Road, west of Rainelle. Friends may visit Sunday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Smathers Funeral Chapel in Rainelle.
