- Obituary -- Gilmer Lewis Hunter
Born January 5, 1936, at Kieffer, he was the son of the late Ray J. Hunter and Mildred L. Crookshanks Hunter.
He served his country in the U.S. Marines. Gilmer worked 40 years for Vecillio & Grogan constructing highways. He loved working with wood, and made many cabinets, tables, and picture frames. But most of all, he loved going to his farm with his special friend, John Porter.
Gilmer had many friends and family who will miss him very much. He loved watching football, and West Virginia Mountaineers was his favorite team. He was a Christian, having given his life to the Lord. His family would like to "Thank" the doctors and nurses at the Veterans Medical Center for taking such good care of Gilmer. Also, a special thanks to Brandon Hedrick for being a special friend.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Ernest Crook- shanks, and his grandmother, Mae Crookshanks; his paternal grandfather,Jennings Hunter, and grandmother Zenna Hunter; one sister, Garnet Hunter Gilkeson; three brothers, Gary, Gene, and Granville Hunter, and one brother-in-law, Tim Knapp.
Survivors include 4 sisters: Gilda Carey (Ed) of Crawley, WV, Galena Knapp of Rupert, WV, Gwenda Heaster (Doug) of Crawley, WV, and Gala Sheppard of Kieffer, WV, 3 brothers: Glen Hunter (Dorothy) of Crawley, Gaynel Hunter (Linda) of Kieffer, WV, and Gerald Hunter (Jenny) of Crawley; a very special niece and caretaker, Marsha Black of Kieffer ; a special great-niece, Jessica Black of Kieffer & her 3 little boys whom Gilmer loved very much. Also many nieces, nephews, cousins, and other extended family.
Services will be at 2:00 PM, Monday, October 26, 2015, at Kieffer Baptist Church, with Pastor Benny Allen officiating. Burial will follow at Burns Cemetery at Kieffer. Friends may visit with the family from 6 to 8 PM, Sunday evening at Wallace & Wallace Chapel in Rainelle, and also one hour prior to the service at the church. Nephews and friends will serve as pallbearers.
