- Obituary for Mont A. Simms
Mont A. Simms 90, went home to be with the Lord after a long illness on Saturday, Nov. 4, 2017. Mont was born on Nov. 25, 1926 in Rainelle, WV, a son of the late Tony and Emily Crookshanks Simms.
Mont was a WWII veteran having served in the Army/Air Force and was on the first fleet into Japan after the surrender. He was a long time member of First Baptist Church in Rainelle.
Mont had many trades and skills, including a sewing machine mechanic and later retiring from the Rainelle Water Dept. He was also a proud member of the Rainelle City Council for 10 years.
After the flood in June 2016, Mont relocated to Roanoke, VA, but his heart remained in WV.
Mont was also preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Clinebell Simms, a sister, May Simms and four brothers, Luther, Winfield, Howard, and Robert Simms.
Mont is survived by his wife of 36 years, Ruby Adams Simms. Daughter Linda Yates of Bend, Oregon, five grandchildren, Kim, Kelly, Carrie, Morgan, and Anna and 13 great grandchildren and four great- great grandsons .
Daughter of his heart and special son in law, Barbara and Mike Igo, Goodview, VA. Special granddaughter Brianna Harrison and loving great grandson, Chance Harrison, Vinton, VA. Mont is also survived by his sister, Ruth Peterson, Ogden, Utah, sisters in law Polly Simms, Crab Orchard, WV, Violet Baldwin, Ghent, WV, and Marie Crowder, Roanoke, VA. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews that he adored.
Mont never met a stranger and had the most gentle soul and loving heart helping many through the years not wanting or expecting anything in return.
Funeral services will be at Wallace and Wallace Funeral Chapel in Rainelle, WV, on Wednesday, Nov. 8, at 1 pm with Pastor David Bush officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
Mont will be laid to rest at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Prosperity, WV.
