- Obituary -- Alice Ruth Crookshanks
Alice Ruth Crookshanks, 86, of Loops Road, Rainelle, passed away Wednesday, December 11, 2013, in the Heartland of Rainelle Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, following a long illness.
Born April 7, 1927 in Middletown, Rainelle, she was the daughter of the late William Conley and Molly Carter Vestal. Ruth was a homemaker and a member of the Big Sewell Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, Ruth is preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Ira David Crookshanks; 5 brothers William Allison, Eugene, Theodore, Woodrow and Franklin Vestal; 2 sisters Ester Sims and Mary Sims.
Survivors include 3 sons Warren and wife Sharon of Cedar Bluff, Richard and wife Carolyn of Loops Road, Rainelle and Ira, Jr. and wife Billie of Athens; 1 brother John Vestal and wife Delores of McRoss; 1 sister Tillie Spence of Charmco; 4 grandchildren Richard Crookshanks, II of Fairmont, Alexander Crookshanks of Blacksburg, Virginia, Marisa Crookshanks of Rainelle and Misty Loggins of Athens; and 7 great-grandchildren.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff at Heartland of Rainelle for the great care given to their mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister. Services will be 1:00 p.m. Friday, December 13, at Smathers Funeral Chapel, Inc.
Burial will follow in the Sims Cemetery on Loops Road, Rainelle. Friends may call one hour before the service from 11 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations of sympathy may be made to the Sims Cemetery Fund, P.O. Box 92,
