- Obituary -- Otis Lee Cales
Rev. Otis Cales, 80 of Smoot passed away on Monday evening, December 13, 2021 at his home of a short illness.
Born on May 31, 1941 at Sandstone, he was the son of the late Julian Spurgeon Cales and Delphia Mae Bragg Cales.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a son, Delbert Lee Cales and a son-in-law, Kerry Smith on December 10, 1983; 7 seven sisters and three brothers.
He was the Pastor of Pluto Missionary Baptist Church for 16 years. He started out at the age of 19 in printer job shops then newspapers. Later he was a coal miner for 17 years working in various coal mines.
Survivors include his loving wife for 61 years, Katherine “Kathy” Cales; daughter, Debra (Kenny) Coats of Sam Black Church; son, Doc Cales of Smoot; brother, Charles H. Cales of Sandstone; seven grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; two grandchildren he helped raise, Otis James Cales and Priscilla Smith; daughter-in-law, Patty Cales and numerous nieces and nephews.
Service will be 1:00 p.m., Friday, December 17, 2021 at Wallace & Wallace, Rainelle with Pastor Sonny Angel officiating. Burial will follow at Julian Cales Cemetery, Sandstone. Visitation will be Thursday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
