- Obituary -- James Wilburn Morrison
LAWRENCEVILLE, Ill -- Wilburn "Bill" Morrison, 86, 414 State St., died at 12:35 p.m. CST Thursday at Lawrence County Memorial Hospital.
Long active in civic and philanthropic organizations, Morrison received numerous awards for his activities. Among them were the Civilian Outstanding Community Service Award in 1963, Rural Health Award in 1965, Lawrence County Association for Mentally Retarded and Physically Handicapped Citizens' Certificate of Appreciation in 1977 and its Outstanding and Dedicated Service Award in 1985, Boy Scouts of America Silver Beaver Award in 1943, Lawrenceville Merchant's Assocaition's Merit Award in 1966, Lawrence County Memorial Hospital's Forward Look Award in 1964.
Morrison was named Elk of the Year by the Lawrenceville Elks Lodge in 1964. He also established the Elks Crippled Childrens Fund in Lawrence County and was Chairman of the Lawrence County Chapter of the American Red Cross from 1962 to 1966.
He was a member of the Elks, Moose, Masons, Shriners and the Lawrenceville Presbyterian Church and was retired from Texaco, where he was employed as a purchasibng agent for 45 years.
Born May 9, 1900, in Rainelle, W. Va., he was the son of Charles and Mary Jane (Zopp) Morrision. His wife, Frances, died in 1983.
A son, Allan Jeter, of Manhattan, N.Y., survives as do four sisters, Margaret Garner and Fonda Moran of Lewisburg, W. Va., Ann Morrision of Millington, W. Va., and Blanche Hopkins of Logan, W. Va.
His funeral will be at 2 p.m. CST Monday at the Emmons-Macy Funeral Home. Burial will be in Cresthaven Memorial Cemetery near Olney.
