- Obituary - Oliver Quinton Webb
Oliver Quinton “Pete” Webb, 79, of Dayton, TN, formerly of St. Albans, went home to be with his Lord February 4, 2018 at home after a long illness with his family by his side. He had a stroke five years ago and never regained his mobility.
Pete was born December 19, 1938 in Oceana and was the youngest of five children born to Guy Webb and Mary “Meadows” Webb. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Izetta Browning and Aretta Lindemann and one brother, Guy Kermit Webb.
He was a 1955 graduate of St. Albans High School where he played football and baseball for the Red Dragons. He attended Marshall University and WV State University.
As a young man, Pete worked for Valley Bell Dairy. He worked at Foxboro for 35 years. He retired and moved to Dayton, TN in 2000. He then went to work for the Rhea County School System where he worked as a job coordinator.
He retired again at the age of 74. Pete loved sports and did a lot of coaching and officiating. He especially loved the St. Louis Cardinals baseball team.
He was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, Tornado, St. Andrews Methodist Church, St. Albans and New Union Baptist Church in Dayton, TN. He loved to talk and if his family or friends needed help with anything, all they had to do was call him. Pete loved his family and was the best father and grandfather ever.
He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years and later his caregiver, Elizabeth “Adkins” Webb; two daughters, Tina Stone and Tammy Fore, both of Dayton, TN; one son, Timothy “Tim” Webb, of Chattanooga; six grandchildren, Megan Hartman, J. T. Stone, Beth Guinn (Brandon) and Michael Fore, all of Dayton, Colby Webb of Cincinnati, OH and Quincy Webb of Huntington; four great-grandchildren, Jacelyn Stone, Jantzen Travis, Jayven Hartman and Hadley Guinn, all of Dayton; one sister, Anita “Polly” Conn of Tornado; several nieces and nephews and a host of friends who will all miss him dearly.
A celebration of Pete’s life will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, February 10, 2018 at Casdorph & Curry Funeral Home, 110 B Street, St. Albans. Burial will follow in Cunningham Memorial Park, St. Albans. There will be a gathering of family and friends from 6-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. The family would like to express thanks and gratitude to Hospice of Dayton, TN and The Courtyard at Deer Ridge for their wonderful care and support.
