- Obituary -- Opel R. Powers Smith
DELTA -- Opel R. Smith, 70, of Delta, died at 4:50 a.m. at her home. She was the wife of Wallace E. Smith. The couple would have observed their 30th wedding anniversary July 1.
The service will be 11 a.m. Monday at Delta United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Slate Ridge Cemetery in Delta. Viewing will be 7-9 p.m. Sunday at the Harkins Funeral Home, Inc., 600 Main St., Delta.
Mrs. Smith was born Jan. 8, 1926, in Grassy Creek, N.C. She was the daughter of the late Felix and Flossie Powers.
She was a beautician and owned Opel's Beauty Salon in Delta until 1974. She was a certified instructor for beauticians. She was a member of the Delta United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Smith is also survived by two daughters, Shirley D. Johnson of Delta and Bannetta G. Smith of Windsor; three granddaughters; a great granddaughter; and a sister, Rhoda Richards of Chestertown, Md.
Officiating will be her pastor, the Rev Stacy Alan Crawford.
