FORMER RESIDENT OF NEWVILLE DIES
Mr. J. Norris Myers, a former resident of Newville, died of pneumonia, in Ridgewood, New Jeresy, on July 28th, 1929.
Deceased was a son of Rev. Thomas Myers, D. D., of the Methodist Episcopal church and Sarah Ann Norris, and was born in Lewiston, Pa. on November 17, 1842. His young manhood was spent in Baltimore, Md., and in 1876 married Laura Virginia Starr, of that city. Afterward he moved to Newville, where he engaged in the hardware business until the health of his wife became poor and made it necessary for him to establish his residence in Ashville, North Carolina. Later he again resided in Newville, from which place he moved to Carlisle and became engaged in Y. M. C. A. work, and was associated with the Carlisle Community College, where his work among the young people of the community stands as a lasting memorial to his memory. In 1915 he moved to Lansford, PA., and helped to establish a business college there, with which college he was associate until his retirement from activve duties, since which time he has lived in Ridgewood, N.J. and in Princeton, N.J., with his sons.
One sister and one brother survive; also two sons, Dr. Wm. Starr Myers, Prof. of Political Science in Princeton University, at Princeton, N.J. and J. Norris Myers, Jr., who is manager and director of the MacMillan Company, New York, with his residence in Ridgewood, N.J.
Mr. Myers came of a long line of Revolutionary and Dutch Colonial ancestry. He ws a faithful member of the Presbyterian church and served the church in many capacities, being an elder for many years.
His funeral was held Monday, July 29, 1929, with interment in the family plot in Greenmount Cemetery, Baltimore, Md.

He married in Baltimore, Maryland, May 30, 1876 Laura Virginia Starr (b. July 15, 1850 - d. Sept. 24, 1894) daughter of Wm. McKendry Starr (b. Dec. 13, 1813 - d. Nov. 11, 1860 - m Sept. 19, 1839) and Mary Jane Crane...(b. 1821 - d. Oct. 26, 1850). Wm. McKendryStarr was a son of Wesley Starr, founder of the Starr Methodist Protestant Church, Baltimore.

Mr. Myers has been a resident of Baltimore, Md., Newville, Pa., Ashville, N. C., Carlisle, Pa. and at present resides at Lansford, Pa. [7]
