  The Charleston Gazette, 6 March 1972 RAINELLE ? George Elliott Smith, 77, of Rainelle, died Sunday in Beckley V. A. Hospital following a long illness. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Rainelle, reired carpenter, World War I veteran. Surviving: wife, Mattie; foster daughter, Mrs. Carolyn Goddard Baltimore, Md.; sister, Mrs. Noka Martin of Washington, D.C., brother, Toby Smith of Baltimore, Md. Service will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday in Smathers Funeral Home in Rainelle. The Rev. Jack Stafford will officiate. Burial will be at the End of the Trail Cemetery in Clintonville. Friends may call from 6 to 10 p.m. today.
