RUPERT - Mabel B. Walkup, 89, died Wednesday, Feb. 21, 2001, in Charlottesville, Va., following a long illness.
Born March 3, 1911, in Meadow Bridge, she was the daughter of the late Benjamin and Alice Diehl Burns.
Mrs. Walkup was a homemaker and a resident of Rupert for more than 60 years, a member of Meadow Bridge Methodist Church and long-standing member of the CEOS, formerly Extension Homemakers Club, of Rupert.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Wilbur Walkup; a daughter, Peggy Walkup; a brother, Kellom Burns; and a beloved grandson, Steven Gadd.
Survivors include a daughter, Polly Gadd of Charlottesville; two sons, Mickey Walkup and his wife, Betty Miller, of Medford, Ore., and Keith Walkup and his wife, Linda, of Sacramento, Calif.; nine grandchildren, Edwin Gadd, Cheryl Gadd Ballerino, Sandra Gadd, Tina Walkup and Leanna Dunnaway, Gregory and Brenda Walkup, amd Hillary and Nathan Walkup; seven great-grandchildren, Drew, Hillary, Cameron, Carley, Carrie, Peggy and Travis; and nieces and nephews, Shirleen Burns Porter, Fran, Patricia, Linda and Kenneth McClung, Pam Tuckwiller, Suzie Morris, Glen Hazelette, Geraldine Gaines and Lloyd Walkup.
Mrs. Walkup expressed her wish to thank her special caregivers during her illness to daughter Polly Gadd and grandson Edwin Gadd of Rupert, granddaughter Sandra Gadd of Charlottesville, her niece, Shirleen Porter of Meadow Bridge, and longtime special friend and loved one, Jack Martinez of Charlottesville.
Service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Smathers Funeral Home Chapel, Rainelle, where friends may call one hour before service. Burial will follow in Wallace Memorial Cemetery.
