Lawrence Doyle "Pap" Johnson
Lawrence Doyle Johnson, 87, of Stephens City, passed away on Sunday, June 5, 2016 at the Winchester Medical Center, surrounded by his loving family.
Lawrence was born October 1, 1928 in Summersville, WV, son of the late Thomas and Rosie Johnson.
Lawrence married Frances "Sis" Jett, February 1, 1951, in Woodstock, VA. They have four children, Roy Johnson and his wife, Ruby, of Stephens City, Sandra McDonald, Judy Emmons and her companion, Daniel Denson, all of Winchester, and Jimmy Johnson and his wife, Joan, of Star Tannery. He is also survived by his sister, Thelma Johnson of Stephens City. He has four grandchildren and two great-granddaughters, Frank Johnson, Chad McDonald and Dustin McDonald all of Winchester, Ethan Johnson of Mountain Falls, and Kelsey Johnson and Lacey Hoover of Stephens City.
He was predeceased by a sister, Opal Blanchfield and brother, Thomas E. Johnson.
He retired from Stephens City Lime Kiln and was the owner of Johnson's Shoe Repair.
Lawrence's love of the outdoors was apparent in his life. He was a founding member of the Opequon Saddle Club and Opequon Rodeo. Hunting and gardening was another love. You could always find Lawrence making something in his shop.
A funeral service will be held 11:00 A. M. Thursday, June 9, 2016 at Enders & Shirley Funeral Home Chapel, Stephens City, with Pastor Paul Campbell officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset View Memorial Gardens, Woodstock.
Pallbearers will be family members, Jimmy Johnson, Ethan Johnson, Chad McDonald, Dustin McDonald, Daniel Denson and Travis Plaugher.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 '96 8:00 P. M. Wednesday evening at the funeral home.
The family wishes to thank his special caregivers, Sherry Russell and her sister, Terry, for all their help.
