Long Illness Fatal To Mrs. Summers
EAST RAINELLE, Sept. 24 ? (Special) ? Mrs. Chloe L. Summers, 70, of Meadow Bluff, step-mother of Dr. Festus P. Summers, head of the history department at West Virginia University and author of several books dealing with the Civil War, died Wednesday after a long illness.
Also surviving are another step-son, Virgil E. Summers, a Charleston school teacher, and a step-daughter, Miss Gladys Summers, also an instructor in Charleston schools.
She was the wife of the late Paul Jones of Summersville.
Other survivors are two other step-daughters, Mrs. Lula Drennen of Drennen and Mrs. Daisy Long of Lockwood; another step-son, Onie Summers of Lockwood; five sisters, Mrs. Hettie L. Wineburner, Mrs. Hattie Callison and Mrs. Mollie Hall, all of Rupert, Mrs. Elsie E. Deitz and Mrs. Irma W. Nichols of Meadow Bluff; and a brother, John Q. Deitz of Meadow Bluff.
Service will be at 11 a. m. Friday in Amwell Baptist Church at Rupert with Rev. G. C. Musick, Rev. Joe E. Brown, Rev. Joe E. Smith and Rev. T. E. Orndorff officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The body will remain at Wallace and Wallace mortuary, East Rainelle, and will be taken to the church an hour before the service. The family requests that flowers be omitted.
