Earl V. Pittman, 92, of Beaver, died Friday, Feb. 8, 2008, at the Greystone Inn following a short illness.
Born July 16, 1915, in Beaver, he was the son of the late Norvil and Julia Phipps Pittman.
Earl was a Shady Spring High School and Beckley College graduate. He was a retired mechanic for the West Virginia State Police, Beckley detachment. He was a member of Grace Gospel Church at Beaver, a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a member of the Air National Guard.
Besides his parents, Earl was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred L. Minnick Pittman; a brother, Norvil Pittman Jr.; and a sister, Gertrude McCloud.
Survivors include a daughter, Patricia Ann Hughes and husband, Jimmy D., of Bradley; a grandson, Michael A. Hughes and wife, Ann, of Greenville, S.C.; a granddaughter, Caroline J. Shumate of Park City, Utah; great-grandchildren, Jacob, Ethan and Meagan Hughes, all of Greenville; a niece, Patricia Pittman Clement and husband, D.D. ?Sonny? Jr., of Damascus, Va.; great-nieces, Detra McVey and husband, H.R., of Alderson and Kimberly Bengtson and husband, Rick, of Franklin, Tenn.; a great-nephew, Dee Clement III and wife, Deana, of Damascus; three great-great-nieces; and two great-great-nephews.
Funeral service will be noon Monday, Feb. 11, at Calfee Funeral Home Chapel, Beckley, with Pastor Pat Haynes officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park, Beckley. VFW Post 3110 will conduct military graveside honors.
Friends may call one hour before service Monday at the funeral home.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
