Gilbert ?Gib? Tyree, 63, was called home to our Lord on Monday, Oct. 24, 2005, after a short illness.
Born to Virgil and Ruby Hazel ?Pete? Tyree on Oct. 4, 1942, he was the eldest son of six children.
He was a 1961 graduate of Elkview High School. After graduation, he continued working and dedicating his life to being a devoted son and father. Over approximately the last two years, he was able to experience the blessing of becoming a grandfather and the joy associated with that blessing for the past 14 months.
Gib will also be remembered for his love of animals. His loyal golden retriever, Lucy, will miss his devotion, as well as all of the deer and the birds that became accustomed to his regular feedings. They will certainly miss the quiet gentle spirit they came to know and trust. He was a member of Mount Pleasant Baptist Church.
Gib was preceded in death by his father, Virgil Tyree; and his son, Steven Paul Tyree.
Gib is survived by his loving family: son, Scott Tyree, his wife, Brooke, and son, Kaleb; mother, Hazel ?Pete? Tyree; brothers, Kermit, Timmy, Paul, Reuben ?Corky? and Allen ?Bo?; sister, Ann ?Sis?; many sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews; and a host of other family and friends.
Services in his memory will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 26, at the Hafer Funeral Home Chapel, Elkview, with the Rev. Lee Swor officiating. Burial will be in Elk Hills Memorial Park, Big Chimney.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to Hubbard Hospice House. Please contact John Hafer Thaxton with Hafer Funeral Home for further information.
Love you all very much - my heart is there with you and I wish I could be there to help in the physical - but at this time, my prayers will be constant and supporting and much greater than my physical presence for now.
