RAINELLE - Marie Morris, 87, passed away Sunday, April 5, 2009, following a short illness.
Born on June 28, 1921, at Crichton, she was the daughter of the late John Soloman and Ina Black Osborne.
Marie was a homemaker, a 50-year member of the Order of Eastern Star, Rainelle Chapter No. 137, a member of the Rebekah Sewell Valley Lodge No. 217, and an active member of the Newton Memorial Baptist Church at Charmco.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Stanley A. Morris; two brothers, Carl and Johnny Osborne; and three sisters, Cuma Mace, Gertrude Morton and Virginia Wertz.
Survivors include two sons, Dennis S. Morris and wife, Fredia, of Rainelle and Carl “PeeWee” Franklin Morris and wife, Susie, of Frankford; a sister, Violet Walkup of Charmco; five grandchildren, Robert Morris and wife, Christina, of Leon, Lori Halsey and husband, James, of Canton, Ga., Edward Morris and wife, Kristen, of Mt. Ulla, N.C., Tammy LaRue and husband, Timmy, of Frankford, and Mendy Williams and husband, Robert, of Pennington Gap, Va.; seven great-grandchildren, Kody, Caleb and Madison of Leon, Kaitlyn and Grant Halsey of Canton, Ga., Ethan Morris and Ellie R. Williams of Pennington Gap, Va.
Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 8, at Smathers Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Maynard Kessler officiating. Burial will follow in the Wallace Memorial Cemetery, Clintonville.
Friends may call from 1 to 2 p.m. one hour before the service Wednesday at the funeral home.
