- The Beckley Register-Herald, Beckley, WV, Online Edition, 29 Jun 2012
On Wednesday, June 27th, 2012, another of "The Greatest Generation" left our midst when our most cherished Kyle Daniel died at his home. He was in his 89th year.
The fourth of eleven children, Kyle Daniel was born on Feb. 19th, 1923, at Saxon. His parents were the late Thurman and Eliza Pettry Daniel. Brothers, Carl, Clyde, Raymond, Arthur, Winford, and Quinford Daniel, and sisters, Arizona Daniel and Marie Henry, have preceded him in death. His sisters Elsie Vanetta and Georgia Daniel survive of Beckley.
Kyle spent his childhood at Saxon. A decorated veteran of the U.S. Army, during WWII, he served under Gen. George S. Patton, in the 735th Tank Battalion. Kyle fought in the Invasion of Normandy pushing eastward toward France; he was in the Battle of the Bulge and the Siege of Bastogne, moving onwards into Germany and the defeat of Hitler and the Third Reich. Kyle was a recipient of the Purple Heart.
A former coal miner, Kyle was disabled from the lumber industry. He was of the Baptist faith and helped support the Dameron Freewill Baptist Church. An avid farmer and gardener, he has been a resident of Dameron since 1956. In September of 1951, he married the love of his life, Maxine Trump. To this union were born a son and daughter, Freddie and Barbara. Tragically, Maxine died suddenly on July 28th, 1981. Kyle would never remarry. And now, "Oh Glad Reunion."
In addition to his sisters, Kyle leaves to cherish his memory his children, Freddie Daniel and his wife, Joanna, of Coal City and Barbara Daniel and her companion, Lee Sigman, of Pinch; he was the "Special Pa Paw" to Mike and Brian Hill; the great-grandfather of Claire, Agnes, Mason and Tate; he was the fond brother-in-law of Ann Daniel, JoAnn Daniel and Pat W. Henry; he also leave his faithful canine companion, Queen; a large extended family, as well as many old friends and neighbors. The family would like give a special thanks to CNAs , Michelle and Carrie and the wonderful staff at the Raleigh Center as well as Hospice of Southern West Virginia.
On Saturday, June 30th, at 11 a.m. we will remember the life of Kyle Daniel with a service at Melton Mortuary Chapel. Pastor Garry Hall will be officiating. Kyle will then be laid to rest at the Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens at Prosperity beside his beloved Maxine. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until the service hour. Due to the extreme heat, the family suggests you wear comfortable clothing. Family members and friends will serve as pallbearers.
The family suggests that donations of sympathy can be made to Hospice of Southern West Virginia, PO Box 1472, Beckley, WV 25802.
