Bay Playing 'Cowboy' Kills Sister
BECKLEY, Jan. 13 (AP) — A 12-year-old boy shot and killed his elder sister While they were playing "cowboy" today in their Saxon home, State Police said.
Cpl. D. V. Lilly said George Daniel and his 15-year-old sister, Cynthia Nadine, were alone at home this afternoon and George took down the 16-gauge shotgun he received last Christmas.
He thought the gun was empty, Lilly said, but it went off, shooting Cynthia in the throat from a distance of six or eight feet. She slumped dead in the doorway between the hall and living room of the home.
A man who came to see about buying a pig found the girl's body and called for help at a neighbor's house.
LILLY SAID the shooting was accidental, but that State Police are continuing their investigation. They were not able to talk immediately to George because he was in a state of shock.
George and Cynthia had four sisters and three brothers. Their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jessie E. Daniel, were visiting another daughter, Mrs. Robert Richmond, at Glen Daniel, seven miles away, at the time. Saxon is 20 miles west of Beckley.
