William A. "Bill" Rhodes, 88, of Beckwith, passed away at his home Sunday, Feb. 19, 2006, following a long illness. Born on Sept. 10, 1917, at Pax, he was the son of the late Marques Nathaniel Rhodes and Cora Ellen Kincaid Rhodes.
Bill was a self-employed coal miner and he enjoyed working. He never stopped working when he retired. When you would stop for a visit, you would find him out working or fixing something.
Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Margaret Jane Nickell Rhodes; his second wife, Gloria R. Feazell Rhodes; a son, Ernie Rhodes; a daughter, Brenda Rhodes Ferguson; and many brothers and sisters.
Survivors include five children, William Rhodes of Portland, Maine, Gale Rhodes and his wife Kathy of Beckwith, Norman Rhodes and his wife Debbie of Eclectic, Ala., Irma Boardwine and her husband Eddie of Eclectic, Ala., and Wayne Rhodes and his wife Jo Beth of Beaumont, Texas; stepson, Ronald Wygal of Beckwith; 16 grandchildren; many, many great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Pauline Goldman of Bayfield, Wis., and Jane Ellen Graham of Beckley.

Service will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Dodd-Payne-Hess Funeral Home Chapel, Fayetteville. Burial will follow in Huse Memorial Park, Fayetteville.
Friends may call Tuesday one hour before the funeral service at the funeral home.
