A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, March 16, 2015, at Boone Family Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Paul Coffey officiating. Mrs. Phipps was born in Fayette County, W.Va. on Oct. 11, 1930, to the late Luke Carnel and Daisy Etta Graham McKinney. She was a homemaker. She enjoyed crocheting and watching the deer and birds. She also had a large collection of birds. Goldie was a loving mother and grandmother; she will be missed by all. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Carl William Phipps; two brothers, Thomas Ray McKinney and Edward McKinney; and a sister, Bessie Mae Patrick. Mrs. Phipps is survived by four sons, Carl Phipps, Jr. and wife, Carol, of Del., Charles Lee Phipps, of Elkton, Md., Carnel Phipps, of West Jefferson and David Phipps and wife, Twilla, of Hickory; three daughters, Janie Phillips (caregiver) and husband, Rick, of West Jefferson, Daisy McCarter and husband, Roger, of Del., and Lottie Coldiron, of West Jefferson; twelve grandchildren; twenty two great-grandchildren; four step grandchildren; several nieces and nephews also survive. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the family, c/o Janie Phillips, 3575 Nettle Knob Road, West Jefferson, NC 28694.
