Concord Man Shoots Wife, Then Kills Self
A 76-year-old Concord woman remained in critical condition last night in the intensive care unit at the county hospital, where she was taken Wednesday night after her husband apparently shot her before he committed suicide.
Concord police identified the shooting victim as Mrs. Charlotte M. Nelson of 13 Galloway Drive, in a mobile homepark just off San Miguel Road.
SERVICES FOR her husband, Emery C. Nelson, 77, are pending at the Lough-Ouimet Concord Funeral Chapel.
Concord police detective Don Shaffer said the shooting occurred in the couple's house trailer at 7:45 pm Wednesday.
Shaffer said Nelson apparently shot his wife twice in the face with a .22-caliber pistol while she sat in an easy chair in the living room of the couple's house trailer.
After making a telephone call to a daughter-in-law in Walnut Creek, Nelson apparently walked to the bathroom, sat down in the bathtub and shot himself in the mouth.
Three rounds had been fired from the pistol police found in the bathtub, Shaffer said. Nelson died at 11:45 pm Wednesday in the county hospital.
Investigating officers found no suicide notes and no signs of a struggle in the trailer, Shaffer continued. The family includes six grown children.

Emery C. Nelson
Services for Emery C. Nelson, 77, of 13 Galloway Drive, Concord, were Friday in the Lough-Ouimet Concord Funeral Chapel.
An apparent suicide victim, he died Wednesday in a Martinez hospital.
Mr. Nelson was a native of Minnesota and a retired right-of-way agent for the California Division of highways.
He leaves his wife, Charlotte, four sons, Wieland, Walnut Creek; Donald Sierra City; Warren, Sacramento, and Emery, Concord; two daughters, Mrs. Geniveve Anderson, Stockton, and Mrs. Lorraine Warg, Minn.; two brothers and two sisters, all of Minnesota; 15 grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.
Interment was in Memory Gardens Cemetery, Concord.
