R.C. Collins,79, Dies In Georgia Sunday Night
Russell C. Collins, former mine operator and mine superintendent died last night in Albany (Georgia) Hospital after a long illness. He was 79.
Collins was associated with mining in Harlan County for many years. He served as superintendent of R. C. Tway Coal Company for several years in the late 30's and later became superintendent of Harlan-Fuel Company, Yancey.
He was also superintendent of Elcomb Coal Company for a short time and owned and operated a truck mine with his son, Basil for a few years. In the past few years he served as maintenance foreman for the City of Harlan.
Several months ago he and his wife went to Georgia to visit Mr. and Mrs. Russell C. Farmer. He became ill and was hospitalized.
Funeral arrangements were incomplete this morning. Burial will be in Middlesboro Cemetery.
In additionto his wife, Ola, he is survived by three children. Edna, Sarasota, Fla., Hazel Giles, Minneapolis, Minn., Basil, Harlan. Three sisters, Mrs. Nell Wilder, Mrs. Bertha Reed, and Mrs. Hattie Mills, Lexington, also survive.
